In June, we recognize and celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. Since then, the importance of diversity and inclusion has only grown stronger across the globe. Year after year, we become increasingly aware of the joy and power in recognizing every human’s full personhood and value.
Pride Month is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, uplifting and celebrating their voices, and supporting human rights in achieving equal justice and opportunity. Rainbow flags and logos don’t take us far enough in promoting acceptance and equity – genuine support means taking real steps toward change. True support involves acknowledging marginalized people in the veterinary profession and in our communities.
In 2022, we have extra reason to celebrate at PetDesk as the company is a signatory to the PrideVMC Gender Identity Bill of Rights! The Pride Veterinary Medical Community (PrideVMC) published the Gender Identity Bill of Rights (G.I.B.O.R.) to address inequality throughout the veterinary industry affecting transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. This statement echoes PetDesk’s commitment to making our workplace inclusive and the I.D.E.A. (an internal employee resource group standing for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Allyship) team’s works to highlight queer identity, lifestyle, and PRIDE in June and July.
